Louise, Art and Laurie York, purchased the Mohawk Trading Post in the spring of 1985*. Our immediate plan was to change the general theme of the store from just gifts and Mohawk Trail souvenirs to a Native American Specialty Store that would feature items that were authentically Native American made. It was a struggle at first but as the years passed we found sources for the real thing. We spent many hours locating suppliers for books and music with an emphasis on Northeastern tribes. It has been well worth the effort and we have enjoyed meeting and learning from some wonderful Native friends.
Art (my Dad) passed on in 2002 and Louise (my Mom) has retired due to ill health. It was through my hobby of genealogy (and DNA research) that I found Mom and I are of Native descent. It was a most pleasant surprise!
I am sure that you will enjoy visiting our store. We love to talk and share the information we have gathered over the years. We're good listeners too and welcome additional information at all times.
