Authentic Native American Arts & Crafts

A little bit about the Native American* products we

carry...

Our Native made jewelry is primarily from the Nations of the Southwest (Navajo, Zuni and Hopi). Most is sterling silver but many have accents of gold. Stones consist of turquoise and cut or polished gemstones.

Artifact reproductions are represented by Rattles, Drums, Cradleboards, Bows and Arrows, Quivers, Dance Sticks to mention a few. The availability of these items is always changing. So, if you see something you really like while in our store, better grab it ... that item may not be available in the future.

Contemporary craft work consists of one of a kind, museum quality Soapstone Sculptures from Six Nations in Canada.  Quill Baskets are from the Objibwa and beadwork is represented by crafts people from across the United States and Canada.

Stone fetishes and carvings are exclusively Zuni. Some other nations make reproduction fetishes, but the Zuni did them first and continue to do them the best. That's our opinion anyway.

  • We are members of the Indian Arts & Crafts Association and abide by their code of ethics which states that we will not knowingly misrepresent any item as Native American made when it is not!
  • *Unless accompanied by a Federally recognized Tribal ID #, No product shown on this website or in our store can be claimed as a Native American Product, in compliance of the Indian Arts and Crafts Act, Section 2.5 USC & 305 et seq.

PLEASE NOTE: The Mohawk Trading Post does carry items that are locally made by undocumented persons of native heritage. Their "authenticity" is provided by family tradition, genealogy, DNA, and individual Tribal Bands. States and Commonwealths (Massachusetts is a commonwealth) also recognize as Native American, people the Federal government does not. Crafts made by these people are clearly tagged as to whom they are and what they know of their native heritage. We also carry Native American items from Canada which has their own set of laws determining who is or is not Native American. Their merchandise identifies the items to have been made in Canada by their indigenous people.

The intent of the federal law is to protect native peoples in the United States from imports that are not identified as to country of origin and offered for sale as authentic Native American made. This affects the ability of our own Native Americans to earn a reasonable living from their art and crafts, and perpetrates fraud against the consumer.

Whether it is the Mohawk Trading Post or any other retailer, which carries Native American arts and crafts, ask questions. We will give honest answers to the best of our ability so that you can make an informed decision. We want you, our customers to be informed consumers, and to be pleased and confident with your purchases of Native American items from us.
